You might not really know how delicious a meal is until you taste it. The aroma of a soup is not satisfactory, until you give it a taste. When you taste something nice and good, you desire more of it. Your choice of determining the goodness of God is when you taste and see. 

This is a great offer to taste and see that the Lord is good. God does not want you to only have a feeling of what other people are telling you about Him. He want you to have a personal experience and encounter with Him. The revelation of His goodness, which you receive in your personal walk with Him will last longer. 

There's nothing bad that people say about God that you will believe, because you are a living witnesses of His love and goodness and you will be able to spread the good news about how the Lord transformed your life. 

The Samaritan woman tasted and saw that the Lord is good. She left her jar of water to spread the good news, because she had receive the living water and thirst no more. She encountered someone who told her all she did and was convinced that He's the Messiah. '...Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.'
