_"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:_ (1 John 5:13-14)

*The Epistle to Affirm the Faith of Believers*

The apostle John was specific about the audience of His epistle in the above verses. He wrote those things to them, that believe on the name of the Son of God. It's not everyone that believes on that name, though some may claim to with only the confession of mouth, but their heart do not really believe.
The action of faith begins with the heart, then proceeds to the mouth. 'For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.' (Romans 10:10). It's important for us to know the essence of our faith and believe on that name, which apostle John expounded in this epistle; 'that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.'
The second part looks like a repetition, but not really for repetition sake. It was for an affirmation of the faith of the believers. He had already said, he's writing to those who believe on the name of the Son of God and again in another few lines, he was saying that they may believe on that name. There's a point of assurance of faith. Faith comes by hearing the word of God. The level of your faith increases the more you hear the word of God and you become established in the faith.

Dear Heavenly Father, this is the confidence that we have in you according to the scripture that, if we ask anything according to your will, you hears us. Please, help my heart to be well established in the faith, through the daily meditation on your word, in Jesus name. Amen!
