 _"But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.  4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."_

 *The Gospel is a Mandate: Speak Up*

The apostles were threatened and persecuted for the preaching of the gospel. The council of the Jewish leaders decided to ban the spreading of the gospel further, after the notable miracle of the lame man that was healed. "Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.  And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. (Acts 4:16-18). 

It looks as if, that's going to be the terminating point of the spread of the gospel, which was a mandate given by the Lord to the disciples. Peter and John spoke with the boldness of the Holy Spirit. They swiftly responded to the council by presenting a food for thought to their conscience. If, 'it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.' 

The apostles saw the gospel, as a mandate and they were ready to give their totality to defend this gospel. They didn't see anything else worth living for, than to fulfill this great mandate. As for them, they cannot help speaking about what they have seen and heard. They were standing on the solid foundation of the calling and wouldn't compromise their faith. 

They have pledged an allegiance to the Lamb of God and will always choose to obey him above all. The disciples could discern the voice of the Lord, and will not hearken to the voice of strangers. The scenario only leads to a more aggressive and radical spread of the gospel, because it is a mandate.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the grace to be partaker of the divine mandate of the gospel. I receive courage and wisdom to fulfill my part of the great commission, in Jesus name. Amen!
