Leviticus
_1:17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD._
*#An Offering Made by Fire 🔥*
The verse that we read is a shadow of the reality, which was to come and has now surfaced in the new testament. In the Old Testament, the priests made physical sacrifices on behalf of the Lord's people, the Israelites but in the new testament, individuals makes spiritual sacrifices which is a sweet smelling sacrifices unto God.
_"Psalms 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice."_
You establish a covenant with God by spiritual sacrifices. On many occasions in the Old Testament, covenant was established with the heroes of faith by sacrifices. Some of them are Abraham, Jacob, Noah, David, Gideon, e.t.c
The moment God perceived the sweet smelling sacrifice of Noah after the flood, God establish a covenant with the earth, not to ever curse the ground for man's sake.
_"Genesis 8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."_
The covenant is still working till date. Since then, day and night, cold and heat, summer and winter has never cease. That was the power of sacrifice.
There are sacrifices that you offer, that will affect your entire generation. When you offer a burnt sacrifice, it means there is nothing left to hold on to. The almighty God delights in such sacrifices without blemish. It should be out of a voluntary will and not what you are compelled to do. You initiate a covenant with God by your spiritual activities knowingly or unknowingly. Some of the spiritual activities are the dedication of your body as a living sacrifice, keeping yourself pure as vessels unto God, without which any other sacrifices may not be acceptable.
You can initiate a covenant with God in a fasting season, a consistent prayer altar, and through a sacrificial giving. A sacrifice that cost you something, that you can feel the pain. David said 'he will not offer unto God, what cost him nothing.'
Such sacrifices are offering made by fire, losing something to gain something that is of a greater dimension. Many of us tries to hold on to that which is not even enough to sustain us. Not, knowing that there is a great opportunity for it to multiply, when we offer it voluntarily without any complain.
